So says David Thwaites, MD of Elland based hirer, Briggs and Partner.

The third generation of this family company, David’s main customers are the small to medium sized builders of the North East, and he offers them a comprehensive range of small construction plant.

Two years ago, he inherited a small telehandler as a business debt. Once it became known that Briggs and Partner had such a machine the demand grew, and they now have 11 - and all but that first one are Merlo, supplied by Yorkshire Handlers at Murton!

“We had to do a selling job on our rental customers” says salesman Ian Bowerbank “As many had never heard of Merlo at first. But, once they had tried the machines they were easy to convince! We like the ruggedness and reliability and, above all, the compactness for our urban tight sites.”

Until now, Briggs’ handlers have been 7m and 9m types, but they’ve just bought their first highlift machine - a 12m P35.12K. It’s a trend certain to continue according to David Thwaites; “Our customers know that we will get the machines they want. From us they get a truly family service where customers matter!”
