Merlo have used hydrostatic drives since 1987. A variable delivery pump is connected by high pressure pipes to a motor, driving a two-speed dropbox. Merlo designers can place the engine low and maintain huge ground clearance.

Little gear changing - and no need to fight brakes against transmission. That means real production!

All that power is available with great precision - distance can be judged literally to the millimetre, and there's no 'lurch' when drive is engaged.

One of the beauties of a hydrostatic transmission is that transmission braking is always available - just release the accelerator!
