New Compact Panoramic and Turbofarmer range - 8 models as low as 2m!!
Merlo’s 6m Compact telehandlers have a reputation for startling performance in a very compact package. At only 2m wide, there are few farm buildings inaccessible to these machines and a low profile version (only 2m high) is very popular with poultry farmers and on underground construction sites.
The latest generation of Compacts were launched at Cereals 2006 and look set to be further winners. Merlo designers wanted to fit the same wide cab as the other new Panoramic machines, as well as the turbocharged 4 cylinder Deutz engine, but neither was possible on the previous chassis.
So, the new P32.6 series has a completely new chassis, and a light and airy 995mm wide cab, claimed to be the widest available in this size of telehandler. The 74.9kW (102HP) Deutz turbo diesel engine is standard as, of course, is hydrostatic transmission. Performance is sparkling, with a full 17HP/tonne in these 6 tonne machines. There are a total of eight variations on the theme, four standard height and four low-profile ‘L’ machines.
The P32.6’s two-section 6.4m lift boom has been redesigned to be lighter and to house all the extension mechanism within it, preventing any damage to the hoses and pipes. The P28.8 variant (2.8 tonne capacity rating) is the same machine, but fitted with new, three-section, boom assembly which gives an 8.2m lift height. And lift height/reach is something that you just can’t get enough of!
The most basic models are P32.6 L and P28.8 L., which are more suitable for construction use. These have the low (2m) cab height, but with a 25 km/h hydrostatic transmission and a gear pump driven hydraulic system – simple and functional. Aimed more at the farm market, are the Plus versions of both Low and Standard cab models with 40 km/h transmission.
All models have a single lever joystick control, with proportional operation of the extension and crowd services via roller switches. ‘Top’ models of the P32.6, P28.8, P32.6 L and P28.8 L have a 108 l/min ‘Load-sensing’ hydraulic system- the first time that this time and fuel-saving device has been used on this size of machine!
A Boom Suspension System is an optional fit on all models, reducing load spillage on longer hauls. With no overhang at the rear and only 400mm at the front, these machines are extremely manoeuvrable in tight spots, and the redesigned chassis ensures that the ‘disappearing’ Merlo boom does just that, reinforcing the Merlo reputation for outstanding all round vision.
