ALL MERLO HANDLERS TO HAVE STANDARD THEFT PROTECTION

Merlo UK Ltd is delighted to announce that all products supplied ex-Merlo UK from 1st July 2008 will be enrolled into the CESAR ID system, offering both construction and farm users the opportunity to be included in the UK’s largest plant theft protection scheme.

General Sales Manager, Glyn Stanton, said “With annual plant losses variously reported at up to £500m per annum, the Construction industry had to take firm action to protect its assets. The Construction Equipment Security and Registration Scheme (CESAR) provides a secure identification of plant enrolled in the scheme and permits a very quick ‘scan’ by Police and Customs officials to verify a machine’s ownership.”

And Merlo UK is making the same protection available, at no cost, to its farm customers (which accounts for 50% of its telehandler UK sales). From 1st July, every Merlo telehandler leaving UK stock will incorporate a full Datatag package, linked to the CESAR reporting scheme.Every unit will have a Datatag, tamper-evident Visible Identification Plates (so it’s immediately obvious if an attempted fraud has occurred), hidden Glass Datatags and chemical DNA Glue with a unique machine identity.

There is a direct link between the CESAR ID system and the DVLA, giving Police immediate access to ownership details. Even machines not registered for road use will be included, within the DVLA Off-Road Register scheme.

Tractor and equipment theft has been identified as a major concern by the NFU and the Agricultural Equipment Association (AEA). The value of farm equipment and its relative insecurity is a real opportunity for international and organised crime. By linking with Europe’s leading vehicle security identity supplier – Datatag – Merlo UK intends to make its customers’ telehandlers significantly less attractive to the thieves!
